Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc. is a not for profit incorporation which provides event management for festivals and events in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It produces the Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival which launched on October 17, 2015 at Albert Campbell Square[2]

History[edit]

Kinron Associates Event Services Management opened on March 14, 2013, and was founded/owned by Steven McKinnon and 'Alison Guerin-Cameron Associates Event Services Management. Shortly afterward, Kinron started to operate independently with the Toronto African Film & Music Festival(TAFMF).[3]

The company changed ownership and was renamed Kinron Associates Event Services Management in May 2013/2014 and was re-branded to Kinron Associates Event Services Management in April 2014; and subsequently in May 2014 was re-organized and taken over under the parent company Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc. Kinron Associates Event Services Management as a subsidiary/division of Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc.[citation needed]

During the Spring/Summer of 2014 the company was granted Letters Patent as Not-for-Profit Incorporation on May 24, 2014 under the parent company Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc.[citation needed]

Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc. currently operates 2 subsidiaries under the company - Kinron Associates Event Services Management and newly created Kinron Entertainment Division which was created in 2015.

Festivals[edit]

On July 22, 2014, Toronto African Film & Music Festival (TAFMF) had their media launch at the Toronto's Own Fairmont Royal York to announce the festival from August 26-28, 2014[4] in attendance was Mayoral candidate Karen Stinz, Film Commissioner Ronit Sheikh.[5] In Fall of 2014, the "Toronto African Film & Music Festival" was cancelled due to city of Toronto permits.[6][7]; However the start of the festival took place with film Screenings which was sponsored by FEVA TV [8][9]

In 2015, Kinron Associates Festivals participated in Chutney in De Park in 2014, Toronto Fire Fete Festival, Me Day Festival(2015)[10],Scarborough Afro-Caribbean Festival (2015)[11]and Scarborough Community MultiCultural Festival[12][13][14] as well as the Urban Music Conference in 2015.[15]

The Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival is co-produced event with Scarborough Residents Unite; Scarborough Residents Unite is a founding partner of the festival which is headed by Joy Robertson, CEO/Executive Director. Scarborough Residents Unite Neighborhood Association is a not-for-profit organization which is community based organization based out of Scarborough Village ( Kingston Road - Markham Road )

The Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival was originally scheduled for September 26, 2015[16] It is operated and owned by Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc. The event was postponed due to permit issues with City of Toronto,and was later announced for October 17, 2015.[17][18][19] With Scarborough Village Residents Unite and Snapd Scarborough held their Inaugural Festival called Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival in which brought talent like Yung Muse, Empress, Set 2, and others.[20] The festival was sponsored by Rogers TV, Festival and Events Ontario, CP24, CTV, Via Rail Canada, UMAC, Snapd Scarborough, Centennial College, TD Canada Trust,Government of Ontario, FevaTV, Caribbean Vibrations TV.[21][22][citation needed]

This year festival for 2016 will take on several new components by adding Canadian Citizenship Ceremony and have added community partnership with Caribbean Tales International Film Festival (CTFF)[23] will be taking place on August 5-7,2016[24][25][26][27][28][29][30]

Festivals that Kinron Associates are no longer involved in are Jerk Fest, Chutney in De Park 2015, and the Toronto African Film & Music Festival.[citation needed]

Next year festival will also be historical event, as it will be the year that Canada will be celebrating its 150th Birthday and which the festival will be over a 3 week period with wide range of activities from 3 day Multicultural Festival, Gala Dinner & Dance, Parade of Nations will all take place next year on August 10-23, 2017.

In 2018 Scarborough Community Multicultural festival received several new sponsors and community partners. In Mid 2018 Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival received welcome news that TD Bank will come on board as Presenting Sponsor of the festival where the festival went under rebranding to TD Presents: Scarborough (Toronto) Community Multicultural Festival.[31]

Financials[edit]

Kinron Community Event Planning Services Inc is a not for profit incorporation. Funding is based on Revenue from marketplace vendors, and expenses from GST returns. An application for City of Toronto Grant funding was denied as the organization did not meet the criteria.[32]

A festival held on January 9, 2016 was under a new initiative Scarborough Renewal initiatives - a organizing committee with the jurisdiction from the Scarborough Community Council to operate a new event called - Celebrate Scarborough Welcome 2016![33].The organizing committee consisted of the following independent organizations - Kinron Associates Event Services Management, Scarborough Residents Unite, Scarborough Arts, and Snapd Scarborough lead by Steven McKinnon,Joy Robertson,Janise Smith,Serov Pertov,James Burchell. This event created partnerships with Volunteer Toronto, Scarborough Arts, Delta Toronto East , Snapd Scarborough, and also with other provincial networkings through Spark Ontario.[34]

In May 2016 we were notified that we were approved for our first Federal Grant from Social Development & Employment Canada.
