Kraków Technology Park (Polish: Krakowski Park Technologiczny sp. z o.o., Polish acronym KPT) is a specialised business environment institution operating as a limited liability company incorporated under Polish law in 1997 by the Treasury of the State, the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, the Kraków University of Technology, the Jagiellonian University, the Municipality of Kraków, and Arcelor Mittal Poland. The Małopolska Region joined the group of stakeholders in 1999.

The company manages the Kraków special economic zone and technology park, at the same time offering a range of services for companies at various stages of development, and for other parties interested in technology development. The mission of the Kraków Technology Park is to support the development of Małopolska’s modern economy and stimulate innovation in the region. Its objective is to develop tools that support corporate development and proactively react to the needs of businesses. Each year over 1500 enterprises take advantage of services offered by the KPT. Its current and former clients include both companies operating in the traditional industries (e.g. Valeo, Nidec, Woodward, Mabuchi), and ones connected to technology innovations in various sectors (Comarch SA, CD Projekt RED, Synerise, Revolut, and Visiona to mention a few).

The Krakow Technology Park is a member of organisations gathering organisations furthering innovation in economy: EBN.[1], IASP (International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation)[2], and ENOLL (European Network of LivingLabs)[3]

Services offered[edit]

Kraków special economic zone (sez)[edit]

The special economic zone of the Kraków Technology Park extends over land situated in Małopolskie, Podkarpackie, and Świętokrzyskie regions. It is designed both for the companies operating in traditional industries (with the exception of enterprises producing goods requiring state licences, such as alcohol, tobacco, and steel) and from the IT sector together with R&D and modern services. A permit to operate in the zone is independent from the size of the company and its country of origin. Small and medium-size enterprises enjoy higher levels of public aid.

Services offered to investors in the zone[edit]

  • land for investment (mostly greenfield)
  • partial exemption from income tax (CIT or PIT)
  • legal and administrative services (one-stop-shop office as part of Business in Małopolska Centre)
  • office space for rent
  • brokerage in real estate transactions

Technology Park[edit]

  • The KPT Technology Park provides companies from the new technologies sector, and especially ICT, with services including:
  • consulting, training, financing
  • infrastructure (offices, co-working space, conference rooms, laboratories)
  • development of networking events and atmosphere (hackathons, conferences, workshops, trade missions)
  • specialist reports and research services

The Kraków Technology Park develops services for start-ups in sectors connected to new technologies. The scope of services offered covers:

  • technology incubators
  • business acceleration programmes
  • workshops, training, consulting
  • financing at the successive stages of development
  • offices and services covered with de minimis aid

Location[edit]

Kraków Technology Park operates from ul. Podole 60 in Ruczaj district of Kraków. The building was opened in 2015 and in 2016 won the prize in the commercial buildings category of Kraków "Mój dom" ("My home") competition organised by Dziennik Polski local daily. The jury appreciated the intriguing architectural solutions and recognised the arrangement of common space designed for the tenants of the KPT.

The Kraków special economic zone consists of 36 subzones situated in 35 communes, and currently covers over 949 ha (2345 acres). It also offers office space in Kraków, in locations including Czyżyny and Pychowice business centres and Kraków Business Park in Zabierzów.
