La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras
La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras (LYSO) is a youth orchestra in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Members of the La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras are required to participate in a music ensemble at their respective school.[1]

Founded in 1967 by Frank J. Italiano, the La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras (LYSO) was originally compromised of one orchestra, the Italiano Orchestra. In 1983, a second orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra, was added. As of July 2018, the organization runs two orchestras: the Italiano Orchestra, conducted by Randall Mastin, and the Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Nick Hansberry.[2]. Previously, the organization had run other orchestras such as the Discovery Orchestra, the Premier Orchestra, and the Preparatory Strings.[3]
Orchestras[edit]
The La Crosse Area Youth Symphony Orchestras runs two ensembles, one upper-level group and one middle-level group. The Philharmonic Orchestra is compromised of musicians in grades 5-9 and plays middle-level repertoire, while the Italiano Orchestra consists of musicians in grades 9-12 and plays more difficult repertoire.
