La Liga Humanitaria
La Liga Humanitaria fue una organización creada en Inglaterra, en 1891, por Henry Stephens Salt, quien también era el Secretario General y Editor. Otros miembros fundadores fueron John Galsworthy, Colonel W. L. Blenkinsop Coulson y Edward Carpenter. La reunión inaugural tuvo lugar en la casa de Alice Lewis, quien fue nombrada tesorera. El objetivo de La Liga Humanitaria era extender el principio de que es inmoral infligir sufrimiento innecesario sobre cualquier ser sintiente. De este modo, se opusieron tanto a la pena capital como a la corporal. Otros objetivos incluía la prohibición de la caza de deporte y de la vivisección. Entre sus miembros destacan Keir Hardie, Thomas Hardy, George Bernard Shaw, Bertram Lloyd y Christabel Pankhurst.
La asociación extendía sus ideas a través de la revista The Humane Review. La Liga se vio obligada a clausurar en 1919.
