Lafaddu

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Lafaddu (Pronounced: La.fa.doo) is a word of Indian origin. It is unclear whether this is a purely Hindi or Urdu word, or a popular culture amalgamation of the two words. The word laffadu is used to describe someone who is lazy and perpetually late. Additionally, the perennial expression on this person’s face is that of cluelessness, rather “I-don’t-know-what’s-going-on”.

History and Etymology:[edit]

If one searches through the internet for the word lafaddu in the formal Hindi and Urdu dictionaries, there is a slight possibility that they may not find the word. Unlike the Oxford Dictionary, which documents and validates words in English language in order to maintain its rigid structure, Indian languages have developed symbiotically, through the constant interactions of spoken (local dialects including) and written (more formal and structured language) language.

Thus, “nerbhousana” (feeling nervous) is an accepted and understandable word even when it is neither proper English nor proper Hindi, in fact, it is a mix of Bhojpuri (the language spoken in parts of the states of Bihar, and Jharkhand) and English.

Similarly, the word “Lafaddu” has been coined or introduced or brought into popular practice by Medlife International Private Limited to describe an utterly exhausting person, who resists even positive change because it may require some effort in the beginning.

The Lafaddu Tale: Adventures of Lafaddu Lal:[edit]

Adventures of Lafaddu Lal[1] is a video series introduced by Medlife International Pvt. Limited. The series stars actors Boman Irani and Varun Sharma who are in the roles of father and son. The video series examines their relationship, with the backdrop of communicating the benefits of ordering medicines through online pharmacy portals.

The adventures revolve around the laziness and uselessness of Lafaddu Lal and how his father tries to make him a more responsible person. The character development graph follows the “Hero Complex” where the protagonist is always a “lafaddu”, who is living a carefree life, but his carefree life is burdensome to the people around him, especially his family. This “lafaddu” is ill equipped to deal with challenges, but is exposed to severe challenges that he/she wins over, transforming into responsible adult in the process.

These 20-30 second short videos cover these coming of age tales, by putting “lafaddu” in different medical emergency situations.
