Lakshyam NGO

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Lakshyam NGO is based in Delhi and works for social upliftment children and women of at-risk communities through education and employment. Lakshyam efforts are helmed by Rashi Anand , a social activist and is currently functional in 11 states of India with 13 centers. [1] [2]

Since its inception in 2004, Lakshyam, established itself for the welfare of the society, with a focus on the development of children, education, and women empowerment. To help rural women learn easily employable skills. One of their aims is to give children a conducive and progressive environment for their development without any shortcomings. That means a total self-development of a child right from the early stage. They aim to develop a society in which they want the highly qualified teachers to teach the students who have not been privileged in the society. By this, they aim to develop a standard system of education in India. [3] [4]

The revolutionary Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, making elementary education an entitlement for children in the 6-14 age group, 2009 was expected to directly benefit close to ten million children who did not attend school.  The act did dramatically raise the number of school going children in the country. When we look back at the education scene, the pitfall primarily on access to education is no longer the real problem now, it is quality of education. A reformist move like this needed to be backed by the will to execute this with passion and in spirit of what was required for the building the nation of tomorrow. This is the gap where organisations like Lakshyam operate on and try to bridge.

Lakshyam came up with an innovative plan of having a toy library for kids as they could not afford playing with toys due to their economic conditions. Toy boxes were installed at various schools in Delhi, India. The toys were collected from various schools and were put in the toy boxes accompanied with story books which all were free of cost for children to read and play. With storybooks and toys, Lakshyam wishes for the children to have a normal life without any disparity. As a result, Children now have access to toys and storybooks, read to them by teacher volunteers present at our centers. They no more look at toys with longing eyes, and can learn and enjoy their childhood to the best. [5]

The mission of Lakshyam NGO is to implement viable solutions and provide support to the disadvantaged, in the areas of education, empowerment, environment and health.[6] Lakshyam also works to create alliances and networks to leverage capabilities and maximize reach and impact, in the most efficient, effective and transparent manner. The major programmes being run at Lakshyam are
