Landry M. Simmons, Jr.
Landry M. Simmons, Jr. (5 February 1969) is an American politician and entrepreneur.[1]
Politics[edit]
Simmons ran as a republican candidate from Ward 11 in Cleveland's 2017 mayoral race.[2][3][4] He has served as an elected committeeman for Ward 11B for The Republican Party of Cuyahoga County since 2016.[5] Simmons has announced his intention to run for Cleveland mayor in the 2021 election.[6]
Personal Life[edit]
Simmons is a deputy sheriff with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department in Cleveland, Ohio.[7] In 2010 Simmons was involved in an off-duty shooting incident while attempting to prevent a shoplifter from leaving a store.[8] He suffered minor injuries during the altercation.[9]
Landry is the 4th great grandson of former North Carolina Senator William Polk Dobson, who served between the years of 1818–1819, 1827, 1830–1834, 1836, and 1842. Dobson was also a lawyer. Landry is also the 4th great nephew of former U.S. president James Polk.[10]
Music Industry[edit]
Simmons formerly owned the hip hop and rap recording company Simmons Time Records. The label signed Hellish Made Clique, who climbed to No. 6 on the Rolling Stone MP3 charts.[11][12]Their single "Pistols Up" was featured on a Riffage Movie Madness compilation album.[13] Canis, a member of Hellish Made Clique, was also signed by Simmon’s label as a solo rap artist.[14]
