Layth "Yahya Ibrahim" MULA-HUSSAIN is a physician, with an interest in the cancer academia and community service, beside his strong emphasis in oncology education and cancer control efforts. Layth was the first board certified radiation oncologist in Iraq in 2010; the first Middle Eastern ESTRO Fellow (by the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology - ESTRO); the founder chairman of the scientific council in radiation oncology at the Kurdistan Board of Medical Specialties, where he lead the establishment of the 1st advanced radiation oncology training (board program) in Iraq along four years; the chairman of the 2015 and 2016 Best of ASTRO Iraq meetings (licensed by the American Society for Radiation Oncology - ASTRO) and the convenor of the Multi-Disciplinary Oncology Course (MDOC) Iraq series in its 1st and 2nd copies in 2015 & 2016.

Layth was born in Mosul city (Ninevah Governorate) in Iraq in Feb. 18, 1975. He grow up there and completed his primary and secondary education in 1993. After that, he studied medicine and surgery and received his primary medical MBChB degree in 1999 from the University of Mosul – College of Medicine. He did his clinical internship and clinical oncology training at the teaching hospitals and finished this in 2005.

In Jan. 2006, he traveled to Jordan to do radiation oncology residency at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman that he completed it in 2010. Later on, he did radiation oncology fellowship at the Tom Baker Cancer Center / University of Calgary in 2012. Beside the Jordanian Board (JB) certification in radiotherapy, he has Professional Diploma in Palliative Care Management (PDPCM) from Applied Sciences University (JORDAN), Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Oncology from Ulm University (GERMANY) and he is a Certified Clinical Investigator (CCI) by the latter university.

As a consultant physician in radiation oncology, Layth served at the King Hussein Cancer Center, Amman – JORDAN (in 2011) and at the Zhianawa Cancer Center and Faruk Medical City, Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan – IRAQ (2013 – 2017). Also, he served as an Expert at the International Atomic Energy Agency (in its imPACT team in Pakistan), as trainer at the Awareness Without Borders campaign (in Sudan) and as member of the working group of International Development Education Award (IDEA) at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). By June 2016, he is serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the International Affairs Committee (IAC) in ASCO. From July 2017 to date, he is joining the community radiation oncology program at the Cross Cancer Institute - University of Alberta, in Edmonton - Canada.

Layth authored three books and over twenty publications. He presented over fifty presentations, and has other research projects and educational lectures at the under- and post-graduate levels. He is member in several Iraqi and international scientific and professional societies and committees.
