About

The Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) at Ryerson University is a co-working space and a legal tech incubator with a focus on building better legal solutions for the consumers of legal services.[1] Located at the corner of Yonge and Dundas Streets in Toronto, Ontario, the LIZ helps support, foster and develop solutions and techniques to improve legal services and the justice system. The LIZ is part of the Zone Learning office at Ryerson University. Entrepreneurs, lawyers, students, tech experts, government members and industry leaders converge in the Legal Innovation Zone to drive legal innovation.

The LIZ is currently operating out of the DSQ 1002 space in 10 Dundas Street East, located in the same building as The DMZ. The zone also shares the floor with Ryerson’s Law Practice Program, City Building Institute, Social Media Lab, and Ryerson Leadership Lab.

History

Based on the model of the DMZ — Ranked #1 university-managed incubator in the world by UBI Global, where more than 150 startups have grown their businesses[2] — the LIZ helps support, foster and develop solutions and technologies that aim to improve the justice system and legal services.[3]

The Startups

The LIZ currently hosts 16 startups, all focused on building technology based solutions for various consumers of the law.
