Levity (band)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Levity is a 4 piece musical group founded in 2014 from Brighton, England. The band consists of George Challiss (singer), David Duce (lead guitarist), Dan Slater (drummer/percussion), and Nick Bowley (bass guitarist).[1].

Founding[edit]

Levity formed in 2014 after George Challiss and David Duce met whilst performing for the Sussex University Big Band at The Montreux Jazz Festival[2][3]. Following a number of changes to the line up, the founding members recruited Dan Slater and Nick Bowley in early 2016. They began writing and performing a combination of Funk, Soul, Rock, and Blues[1][4]. In 2018, Levity have been travelling around the UK on a national tour supporting South African band, Early Hours for their single release[5] Levity have also received airtime on multiple UK radio stations including Hailsham FM[6], Way Out Radio[7], and BBC Introducing South[8]

Member Histories[edit]

George Challiss grew up in Whitstable, England, and started his career as a singer songwriter performing at small venues and events. Heavily influenced by both Jazz and Rock, George's vocal style is powerful and melodic with rough edges.

David Duce, who studied at University of Sussex alongside George[9], began playing guitar at a very young age and bought his first guitar and amp with money saved up from a paper round. As he grew up, David began playing in local bands, writing and performing music around Kent, England. With influences in Blues and Britpop, Dave's guitar performance is defined, distorted, and is combined with a very lively performance.

Dan Slater followed his father into the music industry and started learning drums at 5 years old. Levity recruited Dan following his performance at a New Year's Eve event standing in for a previous member of Levity. Dan takes influence from Heavy Metal and Funk playing with polished, challenging, and unique characteristics.

Nick Bowley started out in the music industry as a guitarist but was recruited by Levity as their bassist in 2018 before the launch of their single, Dreamers Of The Night. With influences in Rock and Psychedelic Music, Nick creates a chunky, rhythmic, and full sound.

Notable Quotes[edit]

"Funk, soul and rock. Levity bring these together to deliver a dynamic and exciting sound packed with a lively performance punch! Combining elements of rock and soul (with a generous sprinkling of funk and blues) Levity have created a sound that is both interesting and exciting to listen to. Utilising compelling rhythms and powerful melodies, combined with the unconventional and original vocal delivery of George Challiss, the songs of Levity provide a unique musical experience." - Thunderbolt Bristol, 2018[11]

"Levity came together with a common goal of combining exciting music with a dynamic live act. Combining elements of rock and soul (with a generous sprinkling of funk and blues), Levity are here to provided a unique musical experience." - Sticky Mike's Frog Bar, 2017[12]

"Levity are a 4-piece band based in Brighton that incorporate a mixture of soul, rock and funk into their music. Influenced by the likes of Funkadelic, Jimi Hendrix and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the band have been playing together for six months and have worked hard at creating an interesting and unique sound with a dynamic live act to go with it." - Late Night Stragglers Records, 2017[13]

"I was about to class “Dreamers of the Night” by Brighton band Levity as upbeat indie rock but the song is too good for that justly maligned genre. The song isn’t different enough to scare you but a lot of work and imagination has clearly gone into making it different from the crowd." - Bluesbunny, 2018[14]
