Lincoln Soldati is a Democrat running for Congress in New Hampshire's 1st District. Soldati is the former mayor of Somersworth, where he also served on the school board for 8 years and on the Somersworth Charter Commission. He was Strafford County Attorney for 18 years, serving 9 terms.[1]

In 2016, Soldati went to the West Bank in Palestine to tutor Palestinian public defenders. He then traveled to Standing Rock in North Dakota to volunteer on behalf of the Sioux Nation in their fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline.[2] Afterwards, he retired from practicing law and began driving for Uber and Lyft.[3]

From August 22nd to 25th, 2018, he completed a 40-mile walk from Manchester to Dover, New Hampshire to protest immigration policies affecting the immigrant communities of New Hampshire.[4]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Soldati was born in Rochester, NH and grew up in Exeter. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, and went to college at the University of Notre Dame. He attended the Franklin Pierce Law Center (now the University of New Hampshire School of Law). Soldati served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971.[5]

Public Service[edit]

During his tenure as Strafford County Attorney, Soldati created a Victim Assistance protocol that altered the way the criminal justice system responded to those claiming to be victims of sexual assault and child abuse. Additionally, as County Attorney, Soldati helped to enact legislation that transferred the cost of rape kits from the victim to the state.[6]

Political Positions[edit]

Soldati has stated his priorities are Medicaid for all, environmental justice, fighting opioid addiction, campaign finance reform, gun control, criminal justice reform, and maintaining checks and balances on the executive branch.[7]
