List of Celebrity Big Brother 1 housemates (UK)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The first series of the British reality television series Celebrity Big Brother featured a total of six celebrity contestants competing for charity. The series saw the housemates voting for two of their own to face eviction each week, and the two or more housemates who received the most votes would be nominated for eviction.[1] The public then votes to evict one of the housemates, and the housemate with the most votes is evicted from the House.[2] When only three housemates remained, the public voted for which of them should win the series.[3]

Anthea[edit]

Anthea Turner (born 25 May 1960) was a 40-year-old television presenter and media personality from Stoke-on-Trent.[4] Anthea rose to fame hosting shows such as the children's program Blue Peter (1992–94) and for her personal life which garnered much media attention throughout the years.[5][6][7] While in the House, Anthea formed a close bond with both Claire and Vanessa, as they shared a bedroom.[8] Anthea survived the first eviction of the series against Chris,[9] but later became the third housemate to be evicted from the House when she was nominated against Jack.[10][11] She later attributed her appearance on the series to "putting herself back together" following a string of controversies in her personal life.[12] Following her appearance on the series, Anthea continued to have a career in reality television and later released a series of books.[13] She later made an appearance on Big Brother 11 (2010) to participate in a reward for the housemates.[14]

Chris[edit]

Chris Eubank (born 8 August 1966) was a 34-year-old retired boxer from London.[15] Chris was often referred to as "eccentric" by the media.[16][17] While in the House, Chris became known for his lisp and walking around the House with a cane.[18] He clashed early on with Vanessa, and the two engaged in an argument over how to raise a child.[19] Chris was nominated for eviction during the first night in the House, receiving a nomination from all five of his fellow housemates.[20] Chris himself chose two housemates to nominate by simply picking straws.[21] He became the first housemate to be evicted from the House on Day 2.[22] Following his appearance on the series, Chris was dropped by his agent[23] and in 2009 was declared bankrupt.[24] He announced a return to boxing in 2012, though has yet to officially return.[25]

Claire[edit]

Claire Sweeney (born 17 April 1971) was a 29-year-old actress, singer, and television personality from Walton, Liverpool.[26] She rose to fame portraying Lindsey Corkhill in the British soap-opera Brookside (1991-2003).[27] While in the House, Claire formed a close friendship with housemate Anthea, which continued outside of the House.[8] Claire was the only housemate this season to not face the public vote, and only received two nominations from her fellow housemates.[28] Claire proved to be popular with the public early on, and was the early favorite to win by bookkeepers.[9] On the final day, it was revealed that Claire had come in second place.[29] Following her appearance on the series, Claire went on to continue acting, and also began appearing in pantomime and hosting.[30][31] It has been noted that her appearance on the series led to Claire achieving more success than she had prior to her appearance.[26]

Jack[edit]

Jack Dee (born 24 September 1961) was a 39-year-old comedian from London.[32] Jack, aside from being a comedian, had previously appeared in television roles including Jack and Jeremy's Real Lives (1996) on Channel 4.[33] While in the House, Jack become known for his negative attitude toward staying in the House.[34] He became known for events such as exiting the House after the first eviction, only to be found hours later by security.[35] He later ran out to his wife following Anthea's eviction, though security later separated them.[36] Despite Jack asking to be evicted during all of the evictions, he proved to be popular with the public.[37] On the final day, it was revealed that Jack had won the series.[38] Since his appearance on the series, Jack has banned Channel 4 from showing archive footage of him during his appearance on the series in an attempt to distance himself from the show.[39] In 2013, Jack was voted as the fan favorite winner of the series.[40]

Keith[edit]

Keith Duffy (born 1 October 1974) was a 26-year-old Irish singer who rose to fame as part of the boyband Boyzone.[41] He was nominated for eviction only once during his time in the House, though survived the public vote.[10] There was much speculation of a romantic relationship between Keith and housemate Claire, though both denied these statements.[42] On the final day, it was revealed that Keith had come in third place.[43] Following his appearance on the series, Keith went on to continue with singing and acting, with Boyzone later reuniting in 2010.[44][45]

Vanessa[edit]

Vanessa Feltz (born 21 February 1962) was a 39-year-old television personality and journalist from London.[46] While in the House, Vanessa clashed with Chris and Keith, and felt that the women should stick together.[19] Following her nomination, Vanessa began to scribble writing on the dining table in the House, and refused to enter the Diary Room when called.[47] Vanessa was evicted on Day 4, with the public evicting her over Jack.[48] Vanessa later criticized the series following her appearance, and stated that she had been portrayed differently than she had acted.[49] Despite her criticisms, Vanessa has gone on to make appearances in Big Brother 10 (2009),[50] Big Brother 14 (2013),[51][52] and Celebrity Big Brother 12 (2013).[53] She appeared as a housemate on Ultimate Big Brother (2010), and was evicted after only five days in the House.[54] Vanessa also appeared in Celebrity Big Brother 19, during which she was responsible for informing Jamie O'Hara that he was the ninth housemate to be evicted.
