List of The X Factor Philippines (season 1) finalists

The first season of The X Factor Philippines aired on ABS-CBN, starting on June 23, 2012 and ending October 7, 2012 but there were special episodes a week after the finale; the live shows began on August 4, 2012. 12 acts made it into the live shows. KZ Tandingan was crowned the winner of the season, with Gabriel Maturan becoming the runner-up and Daddy's Home finishing in third.

Boys

The Boys category is mentored by Martin Nievera. Contestants from this category were males from ages 16 to 25. There were five candidates namely: Gabriel Maturan, Anton Paolo Antenorcruz, Kedebon Colim, Jeric Medina, and Michael Pangilinan. Nievera chose the following:

Kedebon Colim

Kedebon Colim is an 18-year-old student from Cebu. Colim auditioned with One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" and had entertained the judges and most of the live audience with his jolly movements and antics, thus receiving four yeses from the judges. During the Bootcamp stage, he sang "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He sang "Superhero" by Rocksteddy during the Judges' home visit. His appearance on the live shows have generated interest and criticism from many people on several social network sites such as Twitter and Facebook regarding his singing abilities. On week 7, he landed on the bottom 2 for the first time along with Daddy's Home by the public vote. Colim was eliminated after Valenciano, Corrales and his own mentor, Nievera, decided to eliminate him over Daddy's Home. He was eliminated from the competition on September 16, 2012 and came in 6th place overall in the competition.

Gabriel Maturan

Gabriel Anciano Maturan is a 19-year-old student from Dapitan. He grew up from three different men, whom he considered his fathers. He lived in Denmark for three years after her mother's marriage with his Danish stepfather ended. He is now living with his newest stepfather in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte. Maturan auditioned with Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours". During the Bootcamp stage, he sang "On and On" by Stephen Bishop. He sang "Everything You Do" by Christian Bautista during the Judges' home visit. He is the only act never to land in the bottom 2. He was Nievera's last remaining act after Kedebon Colim and Jeric Medina were eliminated consecutively on weeks 7 and 8. On the top 4 show, he performed Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend". Public voting afterward launched him into the top 3 along with KZ Tandingan and Daddy's Home. On the top 3 show, he performed Fantasia Barrino's "I Believe", The Script's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved", and Roger Bart's "Go the Distance" with his mentor Martin Nievera. He lost to KZ Tandingan and became runner-up of the competition on October 7, 2012. After the show, he signed with Star Records.

Jeric Medina

Jeric Pastor Medina is a 21-year-old fresh De La Salle University graduate from Parañaque City. Prior to joining the show, he lost 70 lbs. Medina auditioned with South Border's "Love of My Life". During the Bootcamp stage, he sang "Breakeven" by The Script. He performed "Kahit Kailan", another South Border song, during the Judges' home visit. On week 8, he landed on the bottom 2 for the first time with Daddy's Home. Charice and Valenciano decided to eliminate him over Daddy's Home, but Corrales and his mentor Nievera backed him. With the judges deadlocked, Medina was eliminated as the act with the fewest public vote. He was eliminated on September 23, 2012 and came in 5th place.

Girls

The Girls category is mentored by Charice. Contestants from this category were females from ages 16 to 25. There were five candidates namely: Allen Jane Sta. Maria, Abigail Mendoza, Angelica Prado, KZ Tandingan, and Jerrianne Mae Templo. Charice chose the following:

Allen Sta. Maria

Allen Jane Sta. Maria is a 16-year-old high-school student. Prior to joining the show, she competed on Protégé: The Battle For The Big Break in 2011. She was mentored by Jay-R but was cut in the Face-off Round. Sta. Maria auditioned with Soulja Boy's "Turn My Swag On". During the Bootcamp stage, she sang "Shout" by Tears for Fears. She sang "Love The Way You Lie" by Rihanna during the Judges' home visit. On week 6, she landed on the bottom 2 with Joan Da, but she survived elimination. On week 9, she landed again on the bottom 2 with teammate KZ Tandingan. Sta. Maria was eliminated after Valenciano, Corrales and Nievera, decided to eliminate her over Tandingan. She was eliminated on September 30, 2012 and came in 4th place.

KZ Tandingan

Kristine Zenny Tandingan is a 20-year-old college graduate from Digos, Davao del Sur. Tandingan started singing as a child but had to stop when she was in her junior year in high school after suffering from a throat problem. Tandingan was considered as an early favorite after she performed a jazzy version of Over the Rainbow in the fourth week of the Judges' auditions. After receiving a standing ovation from all the judges', she was requested to sing again. She obliged and sang Ready or Not by the American Rapper, Lauryn Hill. With her second song, she also showed her skills in rapping. Tandingan was greatly praised by all the judges'. Nievera even shouted that, "A star is born in Digos!". The video of her audition went viral online after it was uploaded in YouTube. The video reached nearly 1 million views before it was removed due to copyright issues. During the Bootcamp stage, she sang "Mahirap Magmahal ng Syota ng Iba" by the APO Hiking Society and cried after she made the cut for the Top 20. She sang Killing Me Softly with His Song by Roberta Flack during the Judges' home visit. On week 9, she landed on the bottom 2 for the first time with teammate Allen Sta. Maria, but she survived elimination. She was Charice's last remaining act after Allen Sta. Maria was eliminated on week 9. She reached the grand finals on October 7, 2012 and was proclaimed the winner of The X Factor Philippines.

Jerrianne Templo

Jerrianne Mae Templo is a 21-year-old diver and singer from Bohol. Prior to joining the show, she competed in "Search For A Star" when she was only 12 years old and eventually reached the grand finals where Rachelle Ann Go emerged as the winner. Templo auditioned with Adele's "Rolling In The Deep", wowing the judges. During the Bootcamp stage, she sang "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone. She sang "Fever" by Ella Fitzgerald during the Judges' home visit. On week 1, she landed on the bottom 2 with Joan Da. Templo was eliminated after Corrales, Nievera, and Valenciano decided to eliminate her over Da; her mentor, Charice, however backed her. She was eliminated on August 5, 2012 and came in 12th place.

Over 25s

The Over 25s category is mentored by Pilita Corrales. Contestants from this category were males and females from ages 26 and above. There were five candidates namely: Paulo Castro, Joan Da, Cristine Ledesma, Mark Mabasa, Modesto Taran. Corrales chose the following:

Joan Da

Joan Da is a 26-year-old band vocalist from San Pablo City, Laguna. Da auditioned with Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me". During the Bootcamp stage, she sang "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. She sang "I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles during the Judges' home visit. On weeks 1 and 5, she landed on the bottom 2 with Jerianne Templo and Takeoff, respectively, but she survived elimination both times. She was Corrales' last remaining act after Modesto Taran was eliminated on week 4. On week 6, she landed again on the bottom 2 with Allen Sta. Maria. Da was eliminated after Charice, Nievera, and Valenciano decided to eliminate her over Sta. Maria; her mentor, Corrales, however backed her. She was eliminated on September 9, 2012 and came in 7th place. Due to her elimination on week 6, Corrales lost the chance of being the winning mentor.

Mark Mabasa

Mark Louis Mabasa is a 26-year-old freelance singer. Prior to joining the show, he competed in Diz Iz It! and Pinoy Pop Superstar. Mabasa auditioned with Leon Russell's "A Song for You". Before the judges gave their verdict, his mom, who was Corrales' fan, was asked to join him onstage and sing a Pilita Corrales song. During the Bootcamp Stage, he sang "It Girl" by Jason Derulo. He sang "The Last Time" by Eric Benet during the Judges' home visit. On week 2, he landed on the bottom 2 with Takeoff. Charice and Valenciano decided to eliminate him over Takeoff, but Nievera and his mentor Corrales backed him. With the judges deadlocked for the first time in the series, Mabasa was eliminated as the act with the fewest public vote. He was eliminated on August 12, 2012 and came in 11th place.

Modesto Taran

Modesto Taran is a 50-year-old former Security Officer, a body builder, from Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao. During the judges' auditions, he sang My Way, a song popularized by the American singer, Frank Sinatra. The performance of Taran made Charice emotional after the song and Taran himself reminded her of her late father. He sang "Besame Mucho" by Emilio Tuero during the Judges' home visit. On week 4, he landed on the bottom 2 with Takeoff. Taran was eliminated after Valenciano, Charice and his own mentor, Corrales, decided to eliminate him over Takeoff. This is the first time in the series wherein a judge saved an act from another category over an act from her own category. He was eliminated on August 26, 2012 and came in 9th place.

Groups

Gary Valenciano, the mentor for the Groups Category.

The Groups category were mentored by Gary Valenciano. Contestants from this category were duos or vocal groups. However, all members of a group must be at least 16 years old. There were five group candidates namely: 5th Avids, Daddy's Home, Lucky Girls, Sweet Bliss, and Take Off. Valenciano chose the following:

A.K.A. JAM

A.K.A. JAM (previously known as Lucky Girls) were a six-piece girl group composed of Alyssa Quijano, Auriette Divina, Monique Lualhati, Katrina Velarde, Jhelsea Flores and Ashley Campbell. The members originally auditioned as soloists but failed to make it to the Top 20 of the Girls category. However, the judges decided to bring them together at bootcamp, thus forming a group called Lucky Girls and qualified for Groups category, making it to the Top 20. During the Judges' home visit, they performed as a group for the first time, singing "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent. During the first live performance night, the group was renamed as A.K.A. Jam, which is based around the member's first initials in their names. On week 3, they landed on the bottom 2 with fellow group Daddy's Home. This is the first time in the series wherein the bottom two acts came from the same category. Corrales and Valenciano decided to eliminate them over Daddy's Home, but Nievera and Charice backed them. With the judges deadlocked, A.K.A. Jam was eliminated as the act with the fewest public vote. They were eliminated on August 19, 2012 and came in 10th place.

Divina eventually left the group by the end of 2012 to pursue a solo career. On February 8, 2013, the group announced that they will reunite as a five-piece and take part on It's Showtime. They eventually made it to the Grand Finals and finished in second place. By September, the group became a four-piece after Quijano left to support singer and girlfriend Charice's concert tours. The group has since been a regular supporting act for most of Gary Valenciano's concert series such as "Tuesday's with Gary V." from August until October. Member Katrina Velarde made headlines in October 2013 when she uploaded a make-up free video of herself on Facebook singing while using a comb as a microphone. The video eventually went viral after it was shared by several users online, dubbing Velarde as "Miss Suklay Diva". This prompted the group to be invited as guests for The Mega and the Songwriter on TV5. In 2014, the group collaborated with Valenciano for his 30th anniversary album, With You. They are featured on the track "He's Enough" and also provided the backup vocals for "Kapit Pinoy". They are currently signed to Manila Genesis Entertainment talent agency who also manages Valenciano.

Daddy's Home

Daddy's Home were a quartet vocal group composed of four fathers: Jerome Sabado Icatar, Doc Eric Dacanay, Allan Mitchell Silonga & Herbert Silonga. The group sang Sana Maulit Muli by Gary Valenciano, of which wowed the judges. They were requested to sing another song, of which they obliged with I'll Make Love To You by Boyz II Men. During the Bootcamp stage, they sang "On Bended Knee", another Boyz II Men song. They sang "Hiram" by Zsa Zsa Padilla during the Judges' home visit. On weeks 3, 7 and 8, they landed on the bottom 2 with A.K.A. Jam, Kedebon Colim and Jeric Medina, respectively, but they survived elimination thrice, being the only act to do so. They were Valenciano's last remaining act after Takeoff was eliminated on week 5. They reached the grand finals on October 7, 2012 and came in 3rd place.

Takeoff

Takeoff were a five-piece boy group composed of Gerald Yranon, Russel "Ice" Medina, JZ Zamora, Neo Domingo and Raffy Calicdan. The group auditioned with Dynamite by Taio Cruz. During the Bootcamp stage, they sang "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" by Bituin Escalante. They sang "Do You Remember" by Jay Sean during the Judges' home visit. On weeks 2 and 4, they landed on the bottom 2 with Mark Mabasa and Modesto Taran, respectively, but they survived elimination both times. On week 5, they landed again on the bottom 2 with Joan Da. Corrales and Charice decided to eliminate them over Da, but Nievera and their mentor, Valenciano, backed them. With the judges deadlocked, Takeoff was eliminated as the act with the fewest public vote. They were eliminated on September 2, 2012 and came in 8th place. In 2013, band member Raffy Calicdan entered the second Philippine Popular Music Festival with the song entry "Space". It was eventually named as one of the twelve finalists and is interpreted by Kean Cipriano with Banda ni Kleggy. The group went on to continue without Domingo as a four-piece and released a single called "Natotorpe Ako" under Curve Entertainment on January 2014.
