Living Hope International is a U.S. based 501c3 organization operating a multi-faceted ministry with Christian based values dedicated to alleviating the plight of at-risk children. Living Hope International was founded in 1999 by Jerome C. McNally, who operates as the President and Director to this day.

History[edit]

Jerome C. McNally, better known as Jerry, became a missionary to Mexico in 1985. Along with his wife, Susan J. McNally lived and served in the villages in the mountains of Puebla, Mexico, also known as the Sierra Mixteca region. After 9 years of serving the people and planting churches in the villages, on a trip into the city of Puebla, Jerry encountered a young boy named Juan who was living on the streets. This first encounter with Juan marked the birth of McNally's ministry. In 1994, McNally began Esperanza Viva Youth Home, as a response to meet the needs of children like Juan. McNally founded Living Hope International (LHI) in 1999 with the mission to rescue the countless children orphaned and left to live on the streets of Mexico.

Purpose and Beliefs[edit]

Mission Statement: To provide for the emotional, physical, educational, and social needs of at-risk children, youth, and families, as well as to equip, support, and send leaders to areas of need throughout the world.

Vision Statement: Rescue and raise at risk youth, as well as disciple young adults, who are trained to reach the nations for rescuing children and for spreading the Gospel. And, take this full model of rescuing, raising, and sending out to other nations.

Programs[edit]

Activities include: orphan care, education, health care, disaster relief, economic development, and evangelism. The organization seeks to create programs to support its mission to rescue vulnerable at-risk children, and train, equip, and send leaders to the nations, while inviting others to participate in their mission. LHI’s approach goes beyond providing the youth in its residential home with food and shelter, but promotes education and training to prepare individuals to contribute as productive adults to society. LHI is unique in its approach to rescuing children. Instead of promoting community programs that address poverty at a macro level, LHI takes in abandoned street children, rescuing those who are invisible to government organizations. LHI also provides homes for children whose parents cannot care for them in short or long-term situations. These children are also ineligible for services through existing systems in Mexico.

Child Sponsorship[edit]

Living Hope International runs a child sponsorship program which aims to help needy children, families, and communities with nutrition, health care, education, and provides skills for future livelihood. Living Hope operates on the theory that through the impact of its sponsorship program, children can receive adequate care and live in an environment that promotes opportunities for each child to reach their potential through education, personal development, empowerment, and community support. Children in the Gift of Hope child sponsorship program are provided daily meals, shelter, education, medical care, life-skills training, and spiritual guidance through Esperanza Viva Youth Home. Sponsored children are selected by the sponsors, and communication is encouraged between the sponsored child and the sponsor. As of April, 2022, the cost to sponsor a child through the Gift of Hope Sponsorship Program was US$39 per month. 100% of the funds from the child sponsorship program go directly to the children’s care, covering the costs for shelter, food, clothing, and education. Sponsors are encouraged to visit their sponsored children through trips planned by Living Hope International to Esperanza Viva Youth Home. Living Hope International staff help to coordinate every aspect of the trip including travel, meals, and fees related to the travel.

Numbers[edit]

In 2022, LHI claims to have directly helped over 500 children through the work of Esperanza Viva Youth Homes since opening its doors in 1994. LHI has hosted over 10,000 volunteers from the US and Canada who have participated in their mission to improve the lives of children in-need and to carry on with the global mission of spreading the Gospel. LHI has trained over 600 students through Nations Ministry Institute, formerly known as La Viña Ministry Training Center, who have gone on to serve as missionaries, church pastors, and rehabilitation facility directors, to name a few. Nations Church, is a growing faith community with an estimated attendance of 800 weekly congregants throughout its three campuses in Puebla and surrounding areas.
