History[edit]

Due to the rapid growth of the town and the ever increasing need for good education, Hendrik Louw Primary School (at that time the only primary school in Strand), an additional primary school was needed in the 1950's. The department of education purchased the Methodist Church School in 1955, which was then made available to start a new government school. Following the winter holiday on 17 July 1956, Mr Karl Kielblock, seven staff members and 243 pupils marched to the new school premises and on 20 July 1956 the school was officially opened by Dr. G.J. Joubert, a teaching inspector. Mr. Karl Kielblock, a well-known Afrikaans writer was the temporary headmaster until 5 December 1956. The name "Lochnerhof" is derived from the old Lochnerhof farm where the school is situated on.
