About Lori Systems[edit]

Lori Systems (“Lori”) is powering African logistics by providing supply chain management solutions to cargo owners, ensuring flexibility, reliability and cost savings. For transporters, it provides increased flexibility and increased utilization.[1] The African haulage market is massive with $180bn of annual spend, and shipping costs are ~3x higher than those in the US due to lack of flexibility or centralized coordination (e.g. a mechanical failure at loading site will delay trucks for 4+ days).[2] Through tech-enabled logistics optimization, Lori has reduced haulage costs by up to 17%, in return reducing the cost of goods on the continent. Headquartered in Kenya, Lori has operations in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan. Lori was the 2017 and 2018 winner of TechCrunch’s Battlefield Africa and was awarded as the fastest growing startup in Africa. [3][4]

History[edit]

Since the product launch in May 2017, the company has experienced 30% month-over-month compounded growth. The market demand for Lori’s platform is increasing exponentially. To continue this pace of growth, Lori recently closed a landmark raise from globally leading institutional and strategic investors. The company won Techcrunch Battlefield Africa in 2017.[5] The team has grown from 15 to 70 members since February 2018 and has recently added experience from organizations such as McKinsey, DHL, and NASA.[6]

Founder[edit]

Josh A. Sandler (born July 26th, 1987) is the founder of Lori Systems based in Nairobi, Africa. [7] Sandler founded Lori Systems, a logistics and trucking company based in Nairobi, Kenya. [6] While attending Harvard, Sandler was inspired after researching the challenges with logistics supply chain in Africa. [6] He saw an opportunity to streamline the system through a tech-driven platform that connects business owners with cargo transporters.
