Lorton House

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Lorton House is a stately home near Weymouth, Dorset, that was built in 1857 by surgeon Edmund Lorton, the son of Royal Navy captain Michael Lorton. He lived there with his wife Emily and two children, Margaret (born 1859) and Robert (born 1861) until 1868. Lorton was convicted of murdering his wife and children in December 1868, after his servant found the cellar door unlocked and discovered them hanging from meat hooks alongside the beef carcasses they stored there. The case was a major shock to the rural village of Upwey, which rarely experienced petty crime and let alone any violence

The house was auctioned off by the local local borough in 1870 and has stayed in the same family since then.
