Luca Ascani is an Italian entrepreneur and investor.[1][2] who founded several companies including BuyCentral[3], Advance[4][5] and Populis [6]
Entrepreneurial Career
BuyCentral
In 1999, Ascani founded BuyCentral, an Italian shopping comparison website[7] and he managed the company until it was sold to Lycos Europe in 2004.[8][9]
ADVance
In 2002, he founded ADVance[10] a digital media agency in Italy that was then sold to Netbooster in March 2007. [11]
GoAdv/Populis
In 2004, Ascani cofounded GoAdv, later rebranded Populis. He listed GoAdv on the Paris Alternext stock exchange on the 1st of August 2007.[12] and the following year an 11 million euro bond subscription. [13][14]through which he launched one of the major digital media consolidations in Europe through the acquisitions of : Excite in 2007 [15][16] Blogosfere in 2009 [17] Blogo [18]and Mokono in 2011.[19]
Populis became one of the most important media companies also in Brasil through the acquisition of CidadeInternet in 2012[20] In 2009, Ascani led GoAdv to launch a hostile take over on another French listed company Leguide.com[21] In 2010, GoAdv was delisted from the Alternext Paris Stock Exchange [22] and afterward rebranded as Populis [23][24] to focus on the content on demand new generation of Journalism [25]. He also led the GoAdv/Populis group to win several awards : RedHerring[26], GpBullhound, [27]MediaMomentum[28] and was also named the fastest growing company in Ireland and part of the top ten in Europe by Deloitte. [29]
Events
Ascani attended the E-G8 conference in 2011[30][31] with the aim of connecting the Italian industry with international investors and accelerating the developments of the Italian digital industry. Ascani organised the TechCrunch Italy conference[32]in 2012 and 2013, and in 2017 with Riccardo Zacconi Ascani organised the Founders Forum Italy [33]
Recently Luca coFounded TAG DCU in Dublin[34][35], a co-working campus inside the university, the aim being to create a hub for startups in Ireland.
