Alongside the books "Anonymous," the author, Beatrice Sparks is known for writing in a diary format with the story teller being unknown. As many people may read this book and think it's to encourage young adolescents to try new things, it is actually a story of all the bad things that can happen leading after your first drink. This young girl, living in an upper middle-upper-class neighborhood was the ideal imagine of a "good girl," until she had one taste, one sip and couldn't look back <"Pulse2012">. After this book was published, it received many positive reviews and non-fictional reviews.

Lucy in the Sky, intentionally targeting teenagers, became a very widely popular book among adolescents <"Klits2013">. Lucy in the Sky was portrayed as a helpful guide for young teenagers testing out new things, confusing on where to go and meeting new friends. The book brings attention to drug abuse, but doesn't do a well job on anti-drugs <"Ridley2013">. Although the book ends unwell, it gives adolescents a sense of wanting to try new things based on her "fun" experience throughout her diary <"Ridley2013">.

TITLE The title 'Lucy in the Sky' comes from a reference about being high. The lyrics come from a song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' written by The Beatles <"Beatles">. One of the many things said about this song were "What were they on?" much like the things written about Lucy in the Sky <"Beatles">. The song had many references to drugs, most specifically LSD, which stands for Lysergic acid diethylamide <"Beatles">. With that being said, that's where Beatrice Sparks found the inspiration for the title of her book.

PLOT SUMMARY In Lucy in the Sky, a young girl begins to make a diary for herself beginning on her sixteenth birthday. She lives in Santa Monica, California with her mom, dad and brother. As she enters into a yoga class she meets a very handsome surfer boy named Ross. She is then introduced to her first party, then her first drink then her leading into doing heroin <"Pulse2012">. Throughout the entire book, you get a vidid imagination of everything this young girl is going through and how she lives through it day after day. She begins to skip class to get high or to go drinking with her friends. Which soon led to a severe drug addiction without her even understanding how she got there to begin with <"Klits2013">. She begins to party several days of the week, becomes very agitated with her family and starts to distance herself from the world she once lived in. She begins to hangout with a crowed much older than her, who most definitely did not have her best interest at heart. They just wanted a new friend to party with, whereas she saw them as her best friends <"Klits2013">. Throughout the whole book, she gives describes the intensity of the high she gets from all these drugs: alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, pills, heroin, LSD, etc. <"Kirkus2012">. Towards the end of the book, that 'good girl' from her sixteenth birthday really begins to go off the rails. The book ends in a descriptive death certificate, being the young girl who was writing the diary herself <"Pulse2012">.
