Maiden Home

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Maiden Home is a furniture brand that specializes in custom, handmade upholstered furniture.[1]The Company is headquartered in New York City, with its manufacturing centralized in North Carolina.[2] Maiden Home was founded in 2015 by entrepreneur Nidhi Kapur.[3]

Company History[edit]

Maiden Home was founded by entrepreneur Nidhi Kapur.[4] After purchasing her first home as a newlywed, she began looking for high-quality furniture offered at a price and level of transparency that she had come to expect from modern retailers. After failing to find this on the market, she founded Maiden Home in order to deliver designer-quality pieces at a value and speed that was missing on the market.[2]

Kapur began her career at McKinsey as a consultant, after which she worked at Google, and then at Birchbox as the Director of Business Development before launching Maiden Home.[5]

Maiden Home follows the direct-to-consumer business model, allowing her craftsmen partners to access an entirely new market they had previously not sold through. By eliminating the intermediaries and third-parties (including showrooms and traditional retailers), Maiden Home is able to deliver the same high quality pieces at a lower price and faster pace.[3]

Products[edit]

All of Maiden Home's products are designed in-house[1] and then produced in the USA by a network of independent craftsmen who custom-build each piece of furniture to order.[6] The Maiden Home collection is a curated selection of styles offered in myriad configurations, sizes, and upholstery fabrics[7] - customers can even pick the wood finish on the frame of the piece. The frames and springs of every piece are covered under a lifetime warranty and their cushions are covered under a 5-year warranty.[8] Maiden Home utilizes premium materials in the production of their pieces, including kiln-dried hardwood for their frames, and recycled steel springs - some of which are constructed using eight-way hand tying, considered the gold standard of furniture production.[9]

Maiden Home's assortment of styles consists of 6 sofas and 5 chairs.[10] Their best-selling style is The Sullivan, which features their deepest seat and cushions constructed using down and feather wrapped foam cores for an ultra comfortable sit.[11]

Reception[edit]

Since its founding, Maiden Home has been featured in publications ranging from Architectural Digest[7], to Fast Company[2], to Vogue[6], to Domino[12], to Bloomberg.[3] The press has largely applauded the company for their innovative approach to high-end furniture, many remarking on the ease of use and increased transparency. Elizabeth Segran, writing for Fast Company, said "Maiden Home offers a more transparent approach to buying furniture. For instance, when a customer buys an armchair or a sofa, they receive regular updates and photos of the artisans–all based in North Carolina–who make the pieces from scratch."[2]

Maiden Home has also garnered a cult following among interior designers. Designer Anne Sage used Maiden Home furniture in her makeover of blogger Kim Lapides of Eat Sleep Wear's living room in Los Angeles. Of Maiden Home she said, "Without a doubt, finding the perfect sofa was the biggest challenge of the project! Kim had very clear specifications about what she needed for the space, and we couldn’t seem to find a single option that checked all the boxes! Then, we got a sneak peek at a just-released style from Maiden Home called The Warren, and we knew we’d found The One. This sofa truly has everything Kim wanted and more. It’s available in a cozy, loungeable sectional style with multiple size options to suit any size room, and while it’s deep enough to sink into, it’s not so deep that it takes up a ton of space."[13]
