Development[edit]

A 3D film based on the toy series was announced in 2011, with a tentative budget of $100 million.[1][2] A script was in development, co-written by Hanks and Graham Yost.[3] The producers were trying to reach an agreement with Robert Zemeckis to direct the film.[4] On September 7, 2019, Paramount Pictures acquired the film and Akiva Goldsman producing with Tom Hanks and Goldsman writing a script based on Michael Chabon's short story about Mason, and Zemeckis is not attached to direct.[5]

Casting[edit]

On January 18, 2012, Hanks is set to play Mason.[1]
