Malini is a social activist , film maker and public speaker known for her sarcasm and wit. For her outstanding film “Ladies and Gentlewomen” that spoke on homosexual suicides made its official entry to 9 International film Festivals and won 3 awards for Best Documentary.

EARLY LIFE

Malini was born to Jeevarathanam on the 11th of November 1990 in Paramakudi district of Tamil Nadu. She did her schooling in Paramakudi itself at the A.V. Higher Secondary School. She came to Chennai to pursue her higher studies , i.e., MA (Media Arts) at Loyola College.

ACTIVISM

It was in 2013, Malini declared herself as a queer person. Having undergone various forms of discrimination after this, from denial of houses and job opportunities, being victim of derogatory comments on social media platform etc Malini underwent a lot of mental trauma. She hit back the society with her activism. Malini travels around towns and rural spaces to talk to people on sexuality with her wit and sarcasm. Today, she has addressed over 30,000 people on lesbian rights and has been invited and has also given various talks under the TED platform.  This paved way for her to be designated as the District President for Human Rights Committee, Chennai.


FILMOGRAPHY

Malini worked as an assistant director with two prominent filmmakers of the Tamil film industry. One being Pa.Ranjith and the other being Arun Prabhu Purushothaman for movies Madras and Aruvi respectively. It is after this, director Ranjith who had launched his Neelam Cultural Center then went ahead and produced Malini’s debut film “Ladies and Gentlewomen”. The plot of the film revolves around the LGBTQ community who are forced to take their own lives because of their sexuality. The film made its official entry into nine international film festivals and has been awarded as the Best Documentary Film in three of these festivals.
