ManMindMachine is a Danish electronic band from the Copenhagen area, combining various genre influences like EBM, Synthpop, Industrial and Electro in an all-electronic environment.

History[edit]

ManMindMachine was formed in late 2015 by 3 experienced electronic musicians with the purpose to create music in the genres that they all 3 loved - and mixing the genres together in new ways. The genres are mainly Synthpop, EBM, Electro and Industrial. The ManMindMachine Manifesto[1] describes it as:

ManMindMachine - a crucible of influences and inspirations

  • we love retrofuturism and are fascinated by technology of yesteryear
  • we are inspired by the visionaries and artists that anticipated and described yesterday's visions of tomorrow
  • we engage in present-day life and society
  • We observe the future from a distance
  • we adore the aesthetics and characteristics of machines
  • we honour the pioneers of electronic music in the diversity in our production
  • we live for mixing electronic music genres and manifestations
  • we crave a good melody and a floorkiller alike

Some will call us EBM, some will call us Synthpop, some will call us Electro. We call ourselves “RetroGrade”; looking at the present and future through the eyes of the past - but you can call us whatever you like

The band has in an interview described how important an influence the band Leaether Strip and help the main member Claus Larsen has been during the years.[2]

Releases[edit]

The first ever release by ManMindMachine was on the CD compilation "XX - 20 Jahre Welle:Erdball Hörerclub" with the track Steam on (Club mix) [3].

In April 2017 the first ep "Point of Departure"[4] was released depicting the start on a imaginary train ride where the next ep's will be stations along the journey. The first leg of the journey is depicted in the "Steam on" music video[5]. In an interview the band told that the track "PrimetimeTV" is a bit atypical for the bands lyrics because it tells the story of how bad things can get in this world of reality TV.[6]

The companion ep "Point of Departure remixed" was released in August 2017[7]

In June 2018 the second ep "Automaton City"[8] was released. This was the first stop on the imaginary train ride, and Automaton City is a dark and sinister city mostly inhabited by robots. This darker side reflects in the music with a heavier and rougher production. The reception was great, a lot of radio stations and podcasts picked up the music and the reviews was very positive. Synth.nu wrote:

"This is how an EP should be built up. Other bands: Learn from this! There's really nothing to complain about, except I'd like to have more songs, because this EP really gives you appetite for more." (translated from Swedish)[9]

ManMindMachine has played live so far in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Odense.
