Marin Katusa (born 1978) is a Canadian investor, author, hedge fund manager and the founder and chairman of Katusa Research[1]. He is a contrarian and value investor specializing in the resource sector.

Early life and education[edit]

Born and raised in Vancouver, to immigrant parents, he graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Education.[2]

He found work as a calculus teacher at the Fraser Academy in Vancouver, and moved on to teach calculus in a university environment and he started an investment club to share his ideas with others.

Career[edit]

He began to dig into the tungsten market in 2003, and made his first three major investments in resource sector, taking out a substantial line-of credit in the process.

The proceeds from this investment were then invested into the uranium market.[3]

Eventually realizing that his passion was investments, he left academia and focused full-time on researching, writing and investing.

Through this transition, he got introduced to large players in the resource market, and began working alongside Doug Casey at Casey Research.

Marin became the Chief Energy Investment Strategist at Casey Research.

He utilized a boots on the ground approach to investing and has stated that be have travelled over one million air miles and visiting over 500 projects in more than 100 countries.[4]

Marin has established a series of funds in partnership with Rich Rule and Doug Casey.[3]

In 2015, Marin launched Katusa Research, where he shares his investment thesis and his subscribers.

Books[edit]

Marin released his first book "The Colder War: How the Global Energy Trade Slipped from America's Grasp" in 2014 which went on to become a New York Times bestselling book.[14]

His second (self-published) book "The Rise of America: Remaking the World Order" is set to be released on May 25, 2021 with a foreword from Robert Kiyosaki.
