Markus Mellqvist

Markus Mellqvist is a Swedish golfer born in Linköping in 2002. He began playing golf in 2014 and managed to pick up the game quick. In 2016 he joined landeryds futureteam managed by Petter Ederö. Markus made his competitive debut at the 2017 Östgöta Junior Open, missing the cut by 11 strokes. He continued to practice and with Ederös help he improved a lot. In the 2018 season he picked up his first top-10 finish at a Teen Tour event in Västervik, carding a second round 69, breaking 70 for the first time. Continuing to work with Ederö, Markus got his first win in May 2019 after shooting 71-68 at a Teen Tour event in Värnamo. In July he proved that this was not a one time occurrence when he once again went low, this time carding a career best 67 at Vidbynäs South Course in Södertälje. In August 2019 he made his debut on the Swedish Golf Tour, playing in his hometown event Landeryd Masters. He missed the cut by 6, but at 16 years old he proved he could fare well against professionals.
