Marriage Prep is an American romantic comedy directed and written by Donahue Tuitt. It won the Audience Choice Award at the Hollywood Black Film Festival in 2000. The film was released on February 25, 2000.

Plot

The story revolves around four engaged couples coming from different backgrounds who attend a premarital camp designed to teach the importance of marriage, including what love, loyalty and trust really is.[1] Long-time married couple Cornelius and Charmaine Cleveland are the camp instructors. Their methods are unconventional but are designed to develop trust, draw out insecurities and open spirituality. Some of the participants want to be there and some do not. Some participants understand what fidelity is and some do not. But as the couples spend their time getting to know each other and learning about the other couples, they begin to share details about themselves that allow them to grow and understand the importance of marriage.[2]

Release

Marriage Prep was released on February 25, 2000 by Lighted Pathway Productions.[3] It was distributed nationally by Blockbuster Video.[4]

Review

Variety described the film as "an appealing intimate feel...supported by a talented but largely inexperienced cast willing to take risks. ...tech elements are bad, beginning with key continuity lapses and sound design so poor and static-filled that much of the dialogue simply goes unheard."[5]

Awards

Marriage Prep won the Hollywood Black Film Festival 2000 Audience Choice Award.[6]
