Martin J. Vanderploeg is the CEO and founder of Workiva, a publicly traded software-as-a-service company.[1][2][3]

Biography[edit]

In 1989, Vanderploeg co-founded Engineering Animation Incorporated.[4][5][6]

As CTO, Vanderploeg led EAI's’ development of computer graphics tools that were adapted for use in crime scene reconstruction,[7] 3D animations of human anatomy, CAD applications in automotive design, computer games and other applications.[8]

Career[edit]

In 2008, Vanderploeg and other partners launched WebFilings, an enterprise risk management and corporate reporting software company.[9][10] In December 2014 Workiva went public, trading on the New York Stock Exchange.[11] In 2018, it was announced that Workiva had promoted Vanderploeg to CEO of the company.[12][13][14]

Academics[edit]

Vanderploeg co-authored numerous peer-reviewed research papers covering mechanical engineering software applications, vehicle dynamics, biomechanics and graphic animation.[15][16][17]

From 1985 to 1993, Vanderploeg was a tenured professor of mechanical engineering at Iowa State University, where, in 1990, he founded Iowa State University's Visualization Lab.[18]
