Dane Cutlery[edit]

Dane Cutlery was founded in 2020 by Mason Smith.[11] At the time, Mason was living in White Rock, BC, attending Elgin Park Secondary.[12] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all schools in the province of British Columbia, were forced to shutdown and resort to bringing all classes online. With extra time on his hands he decided he wanted to start an online business. Mason told Global News he chose kitchenware because he was inspired by the quality of a set owned by his Grandparents[13] “They’ve used the same knives for like 50 years,” he said. “So I wanted to (create) something like that.”[14] “I ran it mostly through my Instagram account,” he said, adding that he hired Instagram ‘ambassadors, who promoted and sold his knives through their own social-media channels, and received a percentage of the sales in return.[15]
