Materna is a 2020 American drama film directed by David Gutnik in his debut feature, co-written by David Gutnik, Assol Abdullina and Jade Eshete. The cast includes Kate Lyn Sheil, Jade Eshete, Lindsay Burdge, Assol Abdullina, Rory Culkin, Michael Chernus and Sturgill Simpson.[1][2][3]

The film was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival in the US Narrative Feature Competition, but the festival was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tribeca juried competition proceeded, and the film was awarded two of the top festival prizes, Best Actress (Assol Abdullina) and Best Cinematography.[4]

The film explores the inner lives of four women and the events that lead to their fateful collision on the New York City subway.
