Matthew James Carter (born 2 October 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. He is currently playing for Hashtag United, having been released by EFL League One club Charlton Athletic.
Club career[edit]
Carter was born in Canning Town, London and started his career with local side West Ham United at the age of five.[3] He progressed through the various age groups to sign his first professional contract in June 2016.[3] He never made a first team appearance for the Hammers and in August 2017 he signed for EFL League One side Charlton Athletic on a two-year deal and was placed in the development squad.[4] He made his first team debut for the club on 5 December 2017 in the EFL Trophy win over Swansea City U23's, replacing Leon Best as a late substitute.[5]
He was released by Charlton at the end of the 2017–18 season.[6]
In the summer of 2018, Carter signed for Eastern Counties League Division One South club Hashtag United. On 4 August 2018, Carter made his debut for the club, as a 65th minute substitute, in a 3–2 loss against Little Oakley.[7]
