Matt Morgan is an Iraq War combat veteran and retired Marine, now running for Congress in Michigan's 1st Congressional District.[1] [2]

Early Life[edit]

The son of a highway bridge builder and public school teacher, Morgan grew up in rural Illinois, where he spent summers detasseling corn and walking bean rows. He met his wife Angie, also a Marine, while serving in the Corps. She grew up in L’Anse and Kalkaska, and passed her love for Northern Michigan on to her husband. Upon retiring from the Marines, they chose to set down roots in Traverse City, where they are raising their two boys.

United States House of Representatives Election in Michigan, 2018[edit]

Service-based leadership is a value that was embedded in Morgan from an early age, and it’s what called him to run for Congress in Michigan’s 1st. He is endorsed by more than 30 labor organizations, as well as End Citizens United[3], League of Conservation Voters[4], Sierra Club[5], and more.

Morgan won the Democratic Primary with over 30,000 write in votes.[6]

On September 22, 2018, Morgan debated his Republican opponent in the Congressional race on a number of topics at the Milliken Auditorium in Traverse City, MI.[7] [8]

Education[edit]

Graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Morgan was a member of the ROTC at the University of Illinois; attended Officer Candidate School Quantico, Virginia; Masters Degree from Marine Corps University in Military Studies.

Military Service[edit]

Platoon Commander, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, United States Marine Corps: led a unit of 50 Marines responsible for conducting long-range, armored reconnaissance in operations throughout the Pacific and Arabian Gulf regions.

Director of Public Affairs, Base Realignment and Closure: directed public affairs and risk communication activity in support of the $1.1B closure of two airbases and their associated $240M environmental restoration.

Director, Motion Picture and Television Liaison: negotiated with the motion picture industry to provide technical and material support to feature film and television production.
