Overview

Brief History:

The Company was incorporated on 2nd July 2013 and is led by Mr. Vivek Tiwari as the CEO of the company.  Mr.  Vivek Tiwari, an IIM Kolkata alumnus, is the company's longest-serving director. On Medikabazaar the buyers, the sellers, and the distributors are on the same platform so there is a clear understanding of the demand and supply and rationalization in terms of price. Medikabazaar had started its operation in Mumbai and Pune and by 2015 it had a substantial number of customers in Maharashtra. In India, last-mile logistics is a pressing issue in rural areas and the distribution cost is in double digits. Today Medikabazaar is serving 20000 pin-codes leveraging its supply chain backbone of distribution centers.  [2]

Medikabazaar during covid –19

Medikabazaar ran its largest mask awareness program and distributed 100000 masks to government offices and NGOs. As Mumbai was the worst hit of the lot, 50000 masks were donated to the Mumbai police department. It was not just an act of donation but a humble effort to spread awareness about the pandemic too.[3]

Health Pods

IHL had introduced the 1st of its kind health pods for non-invasive digitally integrated walk-in health kiosks. The health pods are capable of screening 20 health parameters in 5 min without any paramedic assistance. These pods are HIPPA compliant and certified by FDA, CE, and neumetric. The collaboration between IHL and Medikabazaar will help the maximum number of patients deprived of access to primary and preventive care.  [4]

Drones for Delivery

Medikabazaar aims to use drones to make deliveries of critical and emergency medical supplies, vaccines, and lifesaving drugs after getting perquisite regulatory approvals. The company recently launched the pilot drone project in collaboration with Redwing Labs to transport medical supplies and assess the potential of drones as a means of alternative last-mile delivery option, especially for emergency scenarios. The first scheduled test drone delivery took place successfully in Bengaluru.

In Bengaluru, the trial attempted to deliver medical supplies via drone. The used drone has a maximum range of 35 kilometers and can deliver payloads weighing from 1KG- up to 10 kg.

The project aims to serve multiple locations across rural, urban, and semi-urban cities for medical supplies including the geographies where the time to deliver is significantly higher through conventional modes due to tough terrain. This project is one of the first such programs in the country where drones are used to deliver medical supplies to hospital centers. The vision is to ensure easy healthcare accessibility throughout the nation, from the most populous to the most remote areas in India in the near future.[5]

Jobs offered to laid-off online food delivery staff

In the year 2019 Medikabazaar gained traction in news for offering jobs to the laid-off staff of an online food delivery company. Food delivery giant in the month of September 2019 confirmed that they had laid off 10% of their company’s employee strength which was a little over 500. Medikabazaar had agreed to hire 200 positions in customer care, inside sales, and operations.[6]
