Michael Zitney is an American college basketball player for the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats of the Crossroads League. In his freshman season, he won the NAIA DII National Championship.
Early life and high school career
Zitney is the son of "Big Play Ray" Zitney. Zitney attended Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio. Zitney won the OHSAA Division 1 State Championship game against perennial powerhouse Archbishop Moeller, ending their unbeaten winning streak. The Polar Bears outscored Moeller by a final score of 39-38, with Zitney contributing lots of energy throughout the contest. Zitney was a highly touted basketball and football recruit. With interest from Ohio State for football, Zitney made the decision to play basketball at NAIA powerhouse Indiana Wesleyan.
As a freshman at Indiana Wesleyan, Zitney saw action in 11 games and scored 8 points while grabbing 8 rebounds. Known for his freak athleticism and championship pedigree, Zitney helped carry the Wildcats to the 2017-2018 NAIA DII National Championship. Zitney redshirted his sophomore season. In his redshirt sophomore season, Zitney played in 20 games and contributed 15 points and 21 rebounds, 13 being on the offensive end while shooting 38.9% from the field.
Zitney is the son of Ray and Jane Zitney. Jane runs a successful wedding floral and rental company, Elegant Weddings Made E-Z. On campus at Indiana Wesleyan, Zitney is known among students as the "best dresser at IWU." Growing up with interest in martial arts, Zitney is also a self-proclaimed black belt. Zitney is currently studying Pre-Med with plans of becoming a multimillionaire doctor.
