The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) is a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C., that provides pro bono investigative and legal assistance to people who have been convicted of crimes they did not commit in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. . MAIP is dedicated to correcting and preventing the conviction of innocent people through the use of DNA and other evidence. MAIP is a member of the Innocence Network.

History[edit]

Founded in 2000, MAIP has secured the exoneration or release of 21 innocent men. These men spent a total of more than 352 years in prison. The Project has in-house attorneys and investigators who investigate cases and represent individuals with pro bono lawyers. MAIP also works to prevent wrongful convictions thru advocacy and education with local and state law enforcement. MAIP offices are located at the George Washington University Law School.
