Simon Minter (born 7th September 1992), better known as Miniminter , is an English YouTube personality, author, and comedian. His channels have over 10 million combined subscribers and coauthored a bestselling book with other members of the Sidemen.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Minter was born in Hemel Hempstead as the youngest brother of his family. He was educated at Berkhamstead School in Hertfordshire, England until his A-levels, which is where he met KSI and started to collaborate with him on YouTube projects, as well as help him manage his clothing line. Upon taking a gap year in Ghana and studying Criminology at Hull University, he quit university and focused solely on developing a YouTube career with the help of KSI.

Youtube Channels[edit]

He runs 2 channels on the platform: 'Miniminter' (showing IRL videos, Vlogs, FIFA and music videos) and 'MM7Games' (a general gaming channel, usually collaborating with Sidemen members and other YouTubers). He also co-runs the 'Sidemen' channel with his fellow group members.[2]

As of 15th March 2018: 'Miniminter'.[3] currently has over 6,900,000 subscribers, 'MM7Games'[4] currently has 3,000,000 subscribers, and 'Sidemen'[5] currently has 2,600,000 subscribers.

The Sidemen[edit]

On 19 October 2013, Minter and five other gaming YouTubers formed a group called the Ultimate Sidemen[6] (later shortened to just the Sidemen), which initially consisted of himself, Ethan Payne (Behzinga), Olajide 'JJ' Olatunji (KSI)[7], Josh Bradley (Zerkaa), Tobi Lerone (TBJZL) and Vikram Barn (Vikkstar123). The group added a seventh member, Harry Lewis (wroetoshaw or "W2S" for short), in 2014.

He currently lives with 3 of them in their house in South East London.

On 4 August 2017, KSI tweeted that he would be leaving the Sidemen group due to internal conflicts[8][9]. Shortly thereafter, he released a number of diss track videos criticising members of his then-former group, to which most of the members responded back with their own.

Later that month on 15 August, KSI released a video in which he claimed that he was being deported from the United States (as he was staying in Los Angeles at the time) for receiving an incorrect visa, returning to group's private mansion which he co-owns[10], but was otherwise not returning to the group. However, by the following month, he officially rejoined the Sidemen, announcing that the infighting was staged.

The group have their own clothing brand, which distributes worldwide.[11]

The Custom PC build company 'PC Specialist' have a dedicated sidemen themed build for PC customisation, as part of a sponsership deal with the group.[12]

The Sidemen have also come out with a book[13][14] containing facts, trivia, and the history of the group including that of all its members. They went on a book tour of the UK through WHSmith stores[15] and the Book became a number one bestseller on Amazon[16]

The Sidemen were also featured on a Comedy Central one-off where members had to complete various tasks in order to find out who was the 'Ultimate Sideman'.[17][18]

The Sidemen are also part of a series of annual charity football matches consisting of the sidemen and various other YouTube and media personalities, with the teams being 'Sidemen FC' and 'YouTube Allstars'. The first match was at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton on the 3rd June 2016[19] and the second at Charlton Athletic F.C. on the 21st May 2017[20]. Both where streamed live on the Sidemen channel.

Music[edit]

During a period of disagreement with youtuber ComedyShortsGamer ('Deji') on Twitter, Minter released the single 'KSI's little brother' on his YouTube channel on the 12th August 2017[21], which currently has over 36 million views. The single is a rap diss directed towards Deji and involves calling him out for unoriginality, his hairline, and supposed shameful sexual behaviour[22]
