Volvo Ocean Race[edit]

Mirpuri Foundation is the main sponsor of the boat “Turn the Tide on Plastic” in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018 edition. The boat spreads a strong environmental message throughout the eight months of the race, which covers 45,000 nautical miles around the world, with 12 host cities on six continents.[10]

Turn Tide on Plastic has nine different nationalities on board and is the only mixed crew (five men, five women) in the race and the majority of them under the age of 30.[11] Sailing under the Portuguese flag along with the United Nations flag, the crew promotes the United Nations Environment's Clean Seas: Turn the Tide on Plastic campaign. The Skipper is the record-breaker Dee Caffari, the first woman ever to sail solo non-stop around the world in both directions. The team also includes the two Portuguese sailors Frederico Melo and Bernardo Freitas. [12] [13]

Mirpuri Foundation amplified the message of its Volvo Ocean Race “Turn the Tide on plastic” boat, by painting an Hi Fly Airbus A330 in the same livery. The aircraft is now operating worldwide.[14]
