Monkey Man (series)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Monkey Man is a dark comedy web series created by Joe Eidelson and Spencer Hurley and produced by Tim Shaw, Spencer Hurley and Joe Eidelson. Currently in development, the series is set for release in 2019. The show stars Australian comedian, Greg Fleet as Miles Shuman, a former TV star turned children’s party clown tackling debts, alcoholism and his own inner demons. The character’s addiction is in some ways a reflection of Greg Fleet’s own struggles. Fleet has candidly discussed his battle with heroin addiction in his stand-up comedy.[1]

Plot[edit]

Miles Shuman is a once-successful children's TV star. Back in the day his TV show, "Playtime with Moo Moo" - in which he performed as his beloved character, Moo Moo the Monkey - was a hit. Miles' alcoholism and self-destructive bent however, threw this all down the drain. Miles now scrapes by as a children's party clown; his costume a stained and bitter reminder of his forgone success. And there's another problem: he hates children.

Desperate to claw back some self respect, Miles is eager to prove himself as a legitimate comedian and finally do away with his Moo Moo persona. Meanwhile, it has come time for notorious loan shark, Jerry Krakowski to collect on a debt Miles owes him. Jerry however, isn't your typical criminal. Despite his terrifying demeanour and brutal methods, Jerry is ultimately a kind hearted soul, passionate about championing social justice causes.

Kicked to the curb by his agent and pursued by Jerry, Miles is driven to extremes to survive. The biggest obstacle to his survival however, is his own bent to nihilism and self-destruction - an idea expressed through Miles' recurring hallucinations. In his mind, Miles is taunted by a dark figure: Moo Moo the Monkey. A twisted and perverse version of his wholesome children's character, the Monkey is the devil on Miles' shoulder, goading him back to his dangerous and immoral ways. D

espite the constant chaos that constitutes his life, Miles finally gets a second chance when eccentric filmmaker, Werner Herzog approaches him for the role of a lifetime.[2]

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

Concept and Development[edit]

The series is being developed by Tim Shaw, Spencer Hurley and Joe Eidelson under their production company, Bamyasi Media.[4]

Actor Brendan Bacon appears in Monkey Man as Jerry. Jerry is a violent loan shark and mercenary but likes to think of himself as the “cool boss” and is passionate about championing social causes. The character of Jerry is based on a former boss of series co-creator, Joe Eidelson who says, “This boss of mine saw himself as an inspirational Tony Robbins-type figure but was completely oblivious socially and so would always manage to say to wrong thing... With Jerry we took this irony, multiplied it by 100 and gave him a Samurai sword.”[5]

Filming[edit]

The series is being shot in Melbourne, Australia.[6]
