In March 23, 2012, Museo Maritimo had its grand launch on Philippine Trade and Training Center, the first maritime museum in the Philippines' that showcases its long and rich maritime history and how it has developed through centuries. Museo Maritimo aims to be the North Star of Philippine Maritime History and promote the country's rich culture and tradition with regards to it, as well as to honor the Filipinos for its incomparable contributions to maritime industry and excellent seafaring achievements.

The maritime museum is a project envisioned and initiated by the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS), under the supervision and efforts of Ms. Arlene Abuid-Paderanga, E. D., in collaboration with Hiniraya Cultural Heritage and Development Foundation, Inc., Philippine Association of Museums, Inc. (PAMI) launched Museo Maritimo the first maritime museum in the Philippines.

Museo Maritimo is dedicated to the Filipino seafarers considering that one third of global seafarers are Filipinos. It pays homage to their contribution and it serve as a repository for valuable collections of marine art, ship models, and nautical artifacts. The objective of Museo Maritimo is to educate and inform everyone about Philippine seafaring, training and manning history. It utilizes imaginative exhibitions and displays to illustrate what the Philippine seafaring, training, and manning history is.

With its rich seafaring history and strategic location along Roxas Boulevard facing Manila Bay, Museo Maritimo provides an ideal location for a maritime museum of national significance. It is Located within the booming tourism and commercial center of Pasay, City.
