My Rembetika Blues is a 2021 documentary film directed and written by Australian filmmaker M.Zournazi (also known as Mary Zournazi). It is M.Zournazi’s second documentary film. It explores Rembetika music or the Greek blues and its origins in forced migration during the early twentieth century.

Synopsis[edit]

The documentary shares intimate experiences of Zournazi’s own life experience as a member of the Greek diaspora, and traces the roots of Rembetika music to her own family history of migration.[1]. The film takes us to Turkey, Egypt, the United States, and to Australia where Zournazi looks at the evolution of Rembetika music in making human connections[2].

Reception[edit]

The film is currently scheduled for release and has been screen at limited film festivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Future festivals and screenings will follow and it is scheduled for distribution in early 2022[3]
