Nadine Asmar (born November 29, 1994) is a Lebanese film director and screenwriter with a bachelor's degree in cinema and TV from the Lebanese University and a master's degree in cinema and audiovisual from Paris 1 University Panthéon-Sorbonne. Her senior short film The Blind of the Cathedral (2015) won 8 international awards and got over 40 nominations. She wrote and directed her second short film Perhaps Today... produced in 2017 [1] and winner of two Jury Prizes for Best Short Film in France in 2018. Nadine is also a photographer, producer, editor and movie blogger.

Biography[edit]

Nadine Asmar was born in 1994. She got her bachelor's degree in cinema and TV (Audiovisual) from the Lebanese University - Fine Arts Institute II and her master's degree in cinema and audiovisual from Paris 1 University Panthéon-Sorbonne. L'aveugle de la Cathédrale (The Blind of the Cathedral) is her graduation short film, a first-time adaptation of a novel by Farjallah Haïk (the rights were obtained from Haïk's family) [2]. The film won 8 international awards including Best Short Fiction Film, Best Directing, Best Actor and Best Actress, and was nominated for over 40 awards and selected in over 50 international film festivals. She has been congratulated on several academic short films, including Yingtai (2014), a Chinese short film inspired from a traditional legend and the co-directed film Dans mon cocon (2014) which was screened as a special jury mention during the Première Journée Cinématographique des étudiants de l'INBA II à l'Université Libanaise (2015) and featured in "You Can Now Let Go" music video of the Brooklyn-based artist We Are Temporary [3] [4]. Perhaps Today... (Peut-être aujourd'hui...) is her second short film, produced in 2017 and winner of 2 Jury Prizes for Best Short Film in France in 2018. Nadine is also a photographer, producer, editor and movie blogger.

While preparing her BA, Nadine worked in TV production for 2 years. After her graduation, she started directing commercials and various projects. One year later, she got her first position in a feature film production, which was the script continuity in Ziad Doueiri's The Insult which became Lebanon's first Academy Award nominated film for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018. Then she worked for almost 2 months in Nadine Labaki's third feature film Capernaum, winner of the Cannes Jury Prize, as a member of the casting team.
