Nancy Capers (August 29, 1948 - )

Early Life

Born in the mid-west, the family moved to Los Angeles in 1959. Her elder sister is retired Episcopal clergy. Her elder brother is an international trade attorney in Washington, D.C. who worked for President Ford as general counsel of the White House Council on International Economic Policy.

Early Career

Having gotten a call from "The Dating Game, Season 1, she was asked to appear as the "questioner." It was great fun. A few years later, after her son was born she landed a hidden-camera commercial for Kimbies Diapers. Around the same time, an actor-friend asked her if she wanted to be in a movie ("Aloha, Bobby & Rose"). Although she'd never auditioned before, she was given the role of Waitress for the film. At this point, Capers began studying acting seriously working primarily with Robert F. Lyons, Joan Darling and Milton Katselas. She went on to get roles in 23 feature films (such as "Pretty Woman", "Dead & Buried", "Hostage") various television programs such as "Dynasty", "Sweet Justice", "The Gong Show", and "Family" (as Nancy Locke.) She also performed in numerous stage roles in small theatre in Los Angeles. She has also appeared in national commercials ("Jane Fonda Work-out Wear", Toyota, Jiffy Peanut Butter, etc.)

Later career

Capers returned to school at age 40, choosing to become a psychotherapist at Antioch University, Los Angeles. Moving to San Diego in 1998, she took the state boards and earned her licensure. She worked at the YMCA Counseling Center of San Diego with domestic violence victims as well as predators. Her work with the Navy Fleet & Family Counseling Service on North Island (Coronado Island) included couples issues as well as transitions, grief & loss, and utilized various modalities of therapy. She has worked with individuals, couples and families. Her speciality is stepfamilies.

She also began directing, most notably a production of "House of Blue Leaves" in Los Angeles as well as other works. She directed "The Geeze & Me" - a musical about aging, which she and her husband co-wrote.

Personal Life

Married at age 19 to Dave Locke, the couple joined a cult which did not fare well for their young marriage. At age 26, she married artist/builder/restauranteur William J. Dalziel and gave birth to a son, which lasted 2 1/2 yrs. At age 29, she married Wings Hauser, actor/singer/writer. This marriage collapsed after 10 years under the weight of making careers in Hollywood and other issues.

Clearly, she has not only professional training becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, she has valuable personal experience as well. She has been married to Hedges Capers (formerly of 'Hedge & Donna' in the late 60s - early 70s) for twenty years. They penned the hit musical "The Geeze & Me" about aging, which had mostly sold-out performances and was given nightly standing ovations. Hedges wrote all music and lyrics. Nancy directed the premiere held in San Diego. (https://www.thegeezeandme.com/)

As well as being a screenwriter who had two scripts sold to Paramount ("Holy Toledo" co-written with Jules Lichtman) and another indy action-adventure ("No Safe Haven") which she co-wrote, she is an academic as well. Her paper "The Application of Rawlsian Theory to Psychotherapy" was published in the Journal of American Morality, co-written with Albert Erdynaast, PhD, using the theories of ohn Rawls applied to psychological problems. It was also invited to be presented at Fordham University and Harvard Medical School.

She has also been published in Cosmopolitan Magazine ("Hell on Athens Flight 840", 1986) an article about her personal experience on a flight that blew up mid-air between Rome and Athens.
