Nancy Johnson (inventor)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Nancy Johnson an American woman born in 1795. Nancy Johnson was known as the inventor of the first wooden ice-cream freezing machine in 1843.[1] The ice cream maker was a manual device that was cranked by a handle. Inside the maker, a wooden pail contained crushed ice while an inner tin contained the ice cream mix to be frozen. Nancy Johnson signed up for a patent for this device in September 1846.[1] Johnson sold rights to the maker to William Young for $200 dollars. The name of the invention remained "Jonson-Patent Ice Cream Maker". Johnson's invention simplified the process of making ice cream.

Personal life[edit]

Nancy Johnson was born in 1795. There has been no exact of knowing of where Johnson lived. Johnson is considered to be from either Maryland, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. Nancy Johnson filed patent 3254 in September 1846 for the Ice-cream maker. Johnson passed away in 1890.

Wooden Ice cream machine invention[edit]

Nancy Johnson created the first wooden Ice-Cream Maker in 1843. The ice-cream freezer consisted of a manual device cranked by a handle. An outer wooden pail contained the crushed ice, while the inner tin contained the ice cream mixture to be combined together.[2] The lid bottled on the top of the handle turned to freeze the mix. The split in the inner cylinder made is possible for two different flavor mixtures to be frozen at the same time. Shortly after the maker was patent, it was sold to William Young in 1846 for $200. Young marketed the Ice-Cream Maker as "Johnson Patent Ice-Cream Freezer."

Patent 3254[edit]

The Ice-Cream Maker received over 70 improvements before it was sold.[3] The hand-cranked ice-cream machine produced good bonding time for families as each individual would take turns turning the crank. After electronic Ice-cream machines were made, there were still many White Mountain hand-cranked makers sold. Today's ice-cream machines are equipped with the same basic ideas made by Nancy Johnson.[3]
