Nancy Uyemura

Biography[edit]

Nancy Uyemura (born in Santa Monica, CA) is a 3rd generation Japanese American visual artist working in collage, painting and public art. Uyemura lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and formerly resided in the now-evicted 800 Traction Avenue artist loft in Little Tokyo/Arts District..[1][2] Nancy was friends with and currently manages the archive of Matsumi Kanamitsu[3][4][5][6].

Education[edit]

Nancy Uyemura received her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles; her MS in Education from the University of Southern California; and continued her education at the Otis College of Art and Design. She studied one year in Japan.[7][8]

Career[edit]

Uyemura is active in the Little Tokyo downtown community and Little Tokyo Historical Society[9][10]. She has created multiple public art projects in the Little Tokyo Community, including: two canvasses titled “God’s Promise” and “Whispers in the Wind” inside The Little Tokyo Public Library[11], Windows of Little Tokyo[12][13] and the exterior facade artwork of Casa Heiwa[14] and the Little Tokyo Service Center entitled "Harmony" in 1996[15][16]
