Nathan Kay

Nathan Kay (born 17 March 1979) is an English journalist. He is well known in the UK[1] for writing royal, showbiz and diary stories for The Mail on Sunday newspaper and MailOnline. He has also held main editor positions at Ahlan! (the Middle Eastern version of Hello! magazine) and Gourmet, plus high-profile positions at Grazia Magazine and the Qatar Foundation.

Early life[edit]

While attending Canterbury college, he won the Kent schools swimming championships and competed across the UK. He won two consecutive national BT swimming championships (Freestyle relay) and picked up 26 gold medals between the ages of 14 and 18, including East Invicta (100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly), County championships (4 x 100m IM), national level and open galas (100m, 200m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly) and an Olympic Development Meet (200m Breaststroke). He studied a Bsc(Hons) in Media & Society and secured a postgraduate qualification in Psychological Therapies at Queen Mary University, London.

Journalism career[edit]

In 2003 he joined the The People as a junior reporter on the features desk, editing Richard Bacon's film column on a regular basis, writing the 'Page 8' column and contributing to the showbiz diary. In 2006 he was poached from Grazia Magazine where he wrote the social pages to work on the royal, diary and showbiz sections of The Mail on Sunday newspaper. He worked on the newspaper for over four years, breaking exclusives on a weekly basis. While working on the newspaper he launched MailOnline's first daily celebrity column, titled 'Nathan Kay's Party People' [2]which received international recognition and was the most read column on the site during its entirety.

In January 2011 he was appointed the main editor of the biggest selling magazine in the Middle East, Ahlan! (the Middle Eastern version of Hello! magazine). He quickly revamped the look and feel of the magazine, implemented a new legal code, rejigged the team and increased sales in a tough consumer environment. He was also tasked with launching Gourmet magazine from inception to the shelf by the same publishing house, now the leading food magazine in the Middle East.

He is currently working with CNN and OK! as a multimedia contributor on the royal, entertainment and lifestyle desks.

Other media work[edit]

He has appeared on many television and radio shows in the Middle East, including Studio One for Dubai One, That's Entertainment and held a weekly slot on Virgin Radio as the royal and showbiz expert. He has also contributed to other television productions and appeared on talking heads in the UK and UAE, including a documentary on 'A day in the life of a magazine editor', 'Hot 100', 'Legally Blonde 2: The movie review' and many others.

During his career he has interviewed: Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Westlife, Lily Allen, Victoria Beckham and many other celebrities.
