The Centre national du cinéma et de l'image (CNCI lit, the National Center for

Cinema and Image ) is a tunisian public institution whose mission is to develop and

implement public policies in the field of cinéma and d'animation and to promote the film

industry by directly financing the creation, the production and dissemination of

cinematographic and audiovisual works as well as the organization of the professions

related to these fields.

Création[edit]

The National Center for Cinema and Image was created in 2011 under the

Decree-Law No 2011-861 in the form of a public institution of a non-

administrative nature under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and

which enjoys financial autonomy and legal personality.

Targets:[edit]

The main targets of the CNCI are:

  • Better structuring the Tunisian film industry;
  • Financial support for the Tunisian film industry;
  • Enhance the diversity of the offer and improve the conditions of distribution and access to cinematographic works;
  • Promoting Tunisian cinema internationally;
  • Encouraging cultural entrepreneurs to invest in cinema projects and cinemas ; ;
  • Protecting the background of the Tunisian film library through digitilization and indexing;
  • Support associations, clubs and festivals operating in the field of cinema or animated image.

In 2017, the CNCI developed a guide in three languages presenting 246

tunisian feature films made since 1967. In 2020, it has organized webinars in

partnership with the École Supérieure de l'Audiovisuel et du Cinéma and the

Institut supérieur des arts multimédia de La Manouba.

Organization:[edit]

The organization of the CNCI and its operating procedures are fixed by the Decree

No 2012-753 of July 2, 2012. The CNCI comprises:

  • A Director General, appointed by decree, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture for a term of three years, renewable once.
  • A Strategic directions and prospecting council, responsible for contributing to the development and evaluation of programs and action plans for the development of cinema and animated image activities and professions.
  • A governing board to review and advise on the management of the CNCI.

The premises located within the City of Culture in Tunis include, in addition to the

administrative headquarters, three cinemas, a cinématheque equipped with a

library, an incubation space for digital operators and the premises of Carthage Film Festival.[1]
