Now That We're Human is the debut album by American DJ Michael Badal, released on April 27, 2015 by Black Hole Recordings.[1] The album spawned his first headlining tour.[2][3]

Background[edit]

Badal took about four years to complete the album.[4] Badal wanted to complete an album because he grew up on albums, and said on an interview that it "seemed like a right time as I felt that I had something more to offer than just a string of dance floor bangers."[5]

Badal has stated that "these songs are about love, closeness, and our humanity. I hope the album brightens the listener's day, if even for a moment, and helps them realize that life is beautiful."[6]

Promotion[edit]

An 8 minute preview video was uploaded on the Black Hole Recordings YouTube channel on April 9, 2015.[7]

Haliene, who sang vocals on the track "Human Beings," promoted the album on Facebook on April 28, 2015.[8]

Singles[edit]

"Blue Skies" , featuring vocals from Shanokee, is the lead single and was released on December 22, 2014.[9]

"Closer", featuring vocals from British singer Ellie Lawson, was released on February 16, 2015.[10][11]

"Human Beings", featuring vocals from Haliene, was released on March 30, 2015.[12][13] The music video was directed by YouTuber Matthias, and was released on April 10, 2015 on his channel.[14] The single was nominated for Best Dance Recording.

"Fly [Never Come Down Again]", featuring vocals from Lotte Kestner, was released on May 18, 2015.[15][16] A separate version with remixes was released on June 1, 2015.[17]

"Recapture", featuring vocals from Sue McLaren, was released on August 17, 2015.[18]

Critical reception[edit]

Mike Suarez of EDM Sauce called it "a journey that includes some fantastic moments" and "has the ability to entice and inspire like the best of them." Although praising the music, he criticized some of the vocals, saying that "the one-dimensional vocals oftentimes detract from many of the dancier tunes but tend to shine more on the downtempo entries [...]."[19]
