The old afghan is a cocktail originally made with rye whiskey, peach-rosemary syrup , and Noix de la Saint Jean wine.
It was created specially by the barman of Maison Souquet in Paris in 2018 for the 40th birthday of former diplomat and current tech entrepreneur Romain Poirot-Lellig. Maison Souquet named this cocktail owing to Poirot-Lellig's extensive posting in Afghanistan.
