Oleksandra Zaritska (Ukrainian: Олександра Заріцька, born August 2, 1992) is the lead vocalist of Kazka. She is the first Ukrainian singer to hit the world-famous chart of SHAZAM and currently the record holder among Ukrainian artists on YouTube.[1]
Biography[edit]
Olexandra Zaritska was born on August 3, 1992, in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Zaritskaya dreamed of becoming a singer from a young age. In the 10th grade she performed for the first time, and after hearing approving comments began to sing. In 2014, she graduated from the National Law School in Kharkiv. After university she moved to Odesa, and then Kyiv. In the same year, she began participating in the show The Voice of Ukraine, but left it soon after.[1]
In 2017, Zaritska together with Mykyta Budash created the band KAZKA. In the same year, the band released its first single Sviata (Ukrainian: Свята), which they played on the show X-Factor, where the band took 7th place. In 2018, KAZKA took part in the national selection for Eurovision 2018, and came 15th.
On April 27, KAZKA released their debut album, called "KARMA".[1]
In 2019, Zaritska announced that the band would take part in the qualifying competition of Ukrainian performers to participate in Eurovision 2019.[2][3] KAZKA took third place, but were offered the opportunity to perform in Tel Aviv after the artists that came first and second pulled out after the organisers demanded that the they forego any future concerts in Russia.[4] KAZKA, however, refused, saying: “We would like and would consider it an honor to represent Ukraine at Eurovision. We invested a lot of effort, energy, and time in this desire. We took part in the national selection for this purpose. But we don’t need a victory at any cost. Our mission is to unite people with our music, but not to sow discord. Therefore, we do have a clear answer to the PJSC National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC) proposal: we will not go to Eurovision in 2019.”[5]
