Omeida Chinese Academy
Omeida Chinese Academy is a private school in Yangshuo for students learning Mandarin Chinese and culture. It was founded in 2008 by Odar Omeida, a Chinese national who founded Omeida Language College in 2001, an English language school for Chinese students.[1]

Beginnings - Omeida Language College[edit]
As a young man, Odar took a strong interest to the English language and western culture. After visiting the town of Yangshuo in Guangxi province, he grew fond of the town and its surrounding landscape and moved to Yangshuo to work as a tour guide. Through his work, he built friendships with many visiting foreigners, which also cultivated his passion for English learning. As his English improved quickly, he began to see a stark contrast between his language learning experience and that of Chinese students who studied through a more rigid book-based approach. Other Chinese who admired his passion and English skills asked him for mentorship and eventually became Odar's first group of students.
In 2001, Omeida Language College was officially formed, based on Odar's belief that passion, even more than curriculum, was the key to success in language learning. He hired foreign teachers to teach English and worked hard to build a total language immersion environment for the students. Omeida now hosts international visitors seeking language & culture and in addition also offers an internship program.[2]
Omeida Chinese Academy[edit]
Given Odar's method of learning English, he was always eager to build connections between Omeida's students and the visiting foreigners. As some of Yangshuo's overseas visitors were also interested in learning Mandarin, a natural language environment began to form around Omeida in the form of a language partner program. Plans then took shape to start a school for foreigners to study Mandarin Chinese, and in 2008 Omeida Chinese Academy was founded next door to Omeida Language College.[3]
Foreigners visiting China have, for a long time, been drawn to the mountains, rivers, and clean air in Yangshuo - some stay just for a short time while others seek residence. Omeida seeks to support people that come to Yangshuo to learn more about Mandarin and the Chinese culture. The school provides accommodation, food and help with arranging a Chinese VISA.[1][4][5][6]

- Standard Course: The course consists of 15 lessons per week each lasting 45 minutes. The focus is put on all 4 aspects of Mandarin: speaking, listening, writing and reading. Both pinyin and Simplified Chinese characters are used.
- Intensive Course: The course consists of 30 lessons per week and is designed for those who want to make fast progress with their Mandarin.
- Part-Time Course: The course ranges from 6 months to a year and is created to fit those who are interested in learning Mandarin and explore China longer-term but have other responsibilities on the side.
- HSK Prep Course: Is designed to prepared the students for The Chinese Proficiency Test or HanyuShuipingKaoshi (HSK).
- Online Course: Offers online Mandarin lessons.[7][8][6]

- Volunteer Program: Usually entails language exchange when a native or nearly native speaker dedicates an hour or two of their time to converse with Chinese students learning English. In return, the students get a course at a discounted price. Marketing, web development or social media volunteers are also welcome.[9]
- English Teaching Program: Offered at the Omeida Language College, teaching English was the first focus of Omeida Language School. It still provides classes for students wanting to improve their English skills.
- Summer Camp: The school also organizes an English summer camp for young Chinese students.[7][8][10]
