Once Upon a Time in Shanghai (Chinese: 上海堡垒; literally: Shanghai Fortress) is a sci-fi novel written by Chinese Writer Jiang Nan.[1]
This atmospheric page turner from the best selling Chinese author tells a time enduring tale of the loneliness of human existence clothed in a romantic/sci-fi setting.
Plot[edit]
The human beings have done their best to withhold the attacks from potent invaders of the Delta Civilisation. By 2020, Shanghai becomes yet another city to submerge itself in order to survive.
Lieutenant Yang is a young graduate entrusted with the critical part of the final operation. He joined the armed force not only to protect the planet, but to get closer to the special one of his heart, an element and mature girl a few years older who has engaged to Yang’s chief.
How is Yang going to choose between passion and loyalty? Is there a third option? How is the fate of human beings going to unfold in the final battle?

This story was adapted into movie Shanghai Fortress[2][3] in 2017, and will be released in 2019.
